Hi.

I am a Zambian young lady, in my middle 20’s. I completed my secondary education in 2009 right here in Zambia with a distinction in mathematics. The interest in this subject started way back in my second grade at primary. I do not know how it started, but I should confess it is the most beautiful thing that has ever happened in my life.

After I completed my high school I started offering tuitions to high school student, and in the long run I found myself coaching university students. However, I do not have a profession. I almost did, but unfortunately I became pregnant in my third year at the University of Zambia. After delivery, I was supposed to return to school but the father of my child died, therefore I had no any other option but stay at home and look after the child.

Therefore, seeing this information about world meeting for women has made me realise that it’s not over yet. Am hoping that probably in future I could be part of a meeting like this one.

Dear Sakala,

Your mail is beautiful and moving.

There is an association of African Women mathematicians:

http://africanwomeninmath.org

Have you been in contact with them, to explore the possibilities of grants or help for women returning to mathematics after a gap due to family care?

I wish you good luck: I am sure there will be a way for you to teach mathematics again.

I wish all the best to you and your child .
