# The Legacy of Maryam Mirzakhani

Iranian mathematician and the first female ever to win the Fields Medal, Maryam Mirzakhani, sadly passed away after a battle with cancer. Tom Crawford spoke to BBC News about her work and the legacy she leaves behind for female mathematicians.
